Project: Research a Variety of English
1Project Task
Work in groups of 4-5. Choose a variety of English to research. Prepare a presentation about it.
Your presentation should include:
- Introduction: What is this variety? Where is it spoken?
- History: How did English develop in that region?
- Features: Unique accent, vocabulary, and grammar features
- Examples: Common words/phrases used in this variety
- Comparison: How is it different from British/American English?
- Conclusion: Why is this variety interesting?
2Suggested Varieties
Choose one of these varieties to research:
- Indian English - spoken by over 125 million people
- Singapore English (Singlish) - mixes English with Chinese, Malay, Tamil
- Nigerian English - West African variety with unique expressions
- Hong Kong English - influenced by Chinese (Cantonese)
- Philippine English - influenced by Spanish and Filipino languages
