2Sample Project: Interview with my grandmother

Interview with Grandma about Lifestyle Changes

I interviewed my grandmother, Mrs. Mai, who is 70 years old. She grew up in a small village in Thai Binh province.

Then: When she was young, there were no cars or motorbikes. She walked or rode a bicycle everywhere. Her family grew rice and raised chickens. There was no electricity, so they used oil lamps. For fun, children played folk games like nhay day (jump rope) and bi (marbles). People wrote letters to communicate.

Now: Grandma now lives with us in Ha Noi. She enjoys watching TV and using her smartphone to call relatives. She is amazed that we can order food online and buy things without cash.

Her opinion: Grandma thinks life is more convenient now, but she misses the peaceful and simple life in the countryside. She believes we should keep our traditions like making banh chung at Tet and visiting ancestors' graves.

What I learned: I learned that while modern life has many benefits, we should not forget our traditions. I want to learn more about our customs from my grandmother.
