11. Reading: A trip down memory lane

Pre-reading questions: What do you remember most about your childhood?

Read the passage about childhood memories.

A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

When I was a child, I lived in a small village in the north of Viet Nam. Life was simple but full of joy. Every morning, I was walking to school with my friends along the rice fields. The air was fresh and the sky was blue.

In the afternoon, after finishing homework, my brother and I were playing in the yard. I remember we were chasing each other and climbing trees. My grandmother was often sitting under the banyan tree, telling us folk tales. Her stories were about brave heroes, kind fairies, and wise animals.

On weekends, my father took us fishing at the nearby river. While my father was preparing the fishing rods, I was collecting worms for bait. We were sitting quietly by the riverbank, waiting for the fish to bite. Those were the happiest moments of my childhood.

Now I live in the city, but I often think about those simple times. I wish I could go back to my childhood village. The memories of my grandmother's stories and our fishing trips always bring a smile to my face.
