11. Reading: How Technology Has Changed Our Lives

Pre-reading questions: How many electronic devices do you use every day? How have they changed your life?

Read the passage about the impact of technology on our daily lives.

HOW TECHNOLOGY HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES

Technology has dramatically changed the way we live, work, and communicate. Fifty years ago, people had to write letters and wait days or weeks for a reply. Today, we can send an email or a text message and get an answer in seconds. Smartphones allow us to connect with anyone, anywhere, at any time.

Education has also been transformed. Students no longer need to carry heavy books. With a tablet or an e-reader, they can access thousands of books and online resources. Online classes and video conferencing tools like Zoom make it possible to learn from anywhere in the world.

In the workplace, computers and the internet have increased productivity. People can work from home using laptops and video calls. Cloud storage services allow teams to share documents and collaborate in real time.

However, technology also has some disadvantages. Many people spend too much time on their devices, which can lead to health issues like eye strain and lack of sleep. Experts advise limiting screen time and taking regular breaks. They also recommend turning off devices at least one hour before bedtime.

Today I'd like to recommend the iPad Air. It's a tablet with a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display. It has a powerful M1 chip, which makes it fast and efficient. The battery lasts up to 10 hours. I recommend it because it's perfect for students. You can take notes, read textbooks, and watch lectures. It's also lightweight and portable.
