Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated mainly in the United States and Canada. In the US, it is held on the fourth Thursday of November. This festival started as a harvest celebration. Early settlers held a feast to give thanks for a good harvest.
Today, Thanksgiving is a time for families to come together. People travel long distances to be with their loved ones. The highlight of the day is a big feast. The traditional meal includes roast turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie.
Another tradition is watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. This parade has giant balloons, colourful floats, and marching bands. Many people also watch American football games on TV.
Most importantly, Thanksgiving is a day to express gratitude. People think about what they are thankful for and share this with their family. The spirit of Thanksgiving is about appreciation, generosity, and togetherness.
