22. Reading Passage: A Teen Volunteer's Story

A Teen Volunteer's Story

My name is Linh. I am 14 years old and I love volunteering. Last year, I joined a volunteer club at school. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Our first project was cleaning up a local park. The park was very dirty with trash everywhere. We worked for three hours on a Saturday morning. We picked up trash, swept the paths, and planted new flowers. When we finished, the park looked beautiful. Many people came to enjoy the park after that. I felt proud of our work.

A few months later, we visited a home for elderly people. We talked with them, sang songs, and played chess. One elderly man taught me how to play chess. He was very kind and patient. We also gave them small gifts that we made ourselves. The elderly people were very happy. They said we reminded them of their grandchildren.

Last month, we organized a book drive. We collected over 200 books from students and teachers. Then we donated these books to children in a poor village. When we gave the books to the children, their faces lit up with joy. They couldn't wait to start reading.

Volunteering has taught me many valuable lessons. I learned that small actions can make a big difference. I also made many new friends who share the same interests. I feel happier and more confident. I plan to continue volunteering because helping others brings me joy.
