33. Pronunciation: /ɪd/, /t/, /d/ in -ed endings
Three ways to pronounce -ed:
- /ɪd/ - after t, d: wanted, needed, started
- /t/ - after p, k, f, s, sh, ch: played→/pleɪd/ NOT /t/
- /d/ - after other sounds: played, loved, opened
Wait, correction:
- /ɪd/ - after /t/ and /d/: wanted /'wɒntɪd/, needed /'niːdɪd/
- /t/ - after voiceless sounds: watched /wɒtʃt/, kicked /kɪkt/
- /d/ - after voiced sounds: played /pleɪd/, loved /lʌvd/
