Reading: Robots - Past, Present and Future
11. Reading Passage
The Amazing World of Robots
Robots in the Past
The first robots appeared in factories in the 1960s. They were very simple machines. They could only do one job, like moving boxes or welding car parts. These early robots couldn't see, hear, or think. They couldn't understand people. They were big, slow, and expensive. Only big factories could afford them.
Robots Now
Today's robots are much more advanced. They can do many different jobs. Home robots like Roomba can clean your house automatically. In Japan, robots can serve food in restaurants and guide visitors in museums. Modern robots can recognize faces, understand voices, and even have conversations. Some robots can do surgery in hospitals. They can work 24 hours a day without getting tired.
Robots in the Future
In the future, robots will be even more amazing. They might be able to think and learn like humans. Future robots might have feelings and emotions. Some scientists think that by 2050, robots might be as intelligent as people. They will help us in every part of life - at home, at school, at work, and in space. However, robots will probably never be able to replace human love and care.
